The idea that you would pay extra for someone's care — as though care were a bonus feature, available at a premium — runs counter to the entire philosophy of omotenashi. In a tipping culture, service is implicitly graded by the customer. The server's effort is evaluated, ranked, and compensated accordingly.

Omotenashi eliminates this calculation entirely. The host serves because the serving is right. There is no evaluation, no grade, no tip. The care can be pure — genuinely offered for its own sake.
